A message from our team:

Floor degreasing oil contaminated floors is an essential step in the preparation for coating. Degreasers are chemicals that mix with the oil and allow it to be removed.

At Epoxyguys we use power scrubbers used in combination with powerful degreasers to accelerate the extraction of oil. In case that there will be any remnants of oil after the fact, we use an oil tolerant epoxy primer after degreasing as insurance. Our degreasers penetrate into the concrete and extract oil up to 3/8″ in one procedure.

The Epoxyguys recently went back to complete the final phase of a flooring installation; the customer had been dry ice blasting machines in this area for 6 months… We soon discovered that the oil had penetrated as deep as 4 inches into the concrete! As surface oil is removed, the deeper contamination wicks to the surface overnight and the floor surface is oily again. This oil again needs to be removed until you have removed MOST of the contamination.

Do NOT believe that shotblasting or grinding is enough preparation on oily floors!

IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, YOU CAN DECONTAMINATE YOUR FLOORS IN THE SAME WAY THEY WERE CONTAMINATED – over a period of time.
